Traveler’s Collective is a retail and hospitality group based in Houston, Texas, but inspired by, well… everywhere! As travelers, we believe in experiencing different cultures in a meaningful way, and our concepts aspire to nourish an appetite for discovery. Food and fashion are both incredible gateways for learning about other people, fostering understanding, and celebrating global traditions. Our concepts — Traveler’s Table, Traveler’s Cart and Foreign Fare — are all designed to celebrate the romance of travel and the spirit of discovery.

About Our Founders

A narrow street in Japan with diners seated inside small restaurants and food menus posted outside.

Matthew Mitchell

Matthew Mitchell’s backstory is the inspiration for his concepts’ worldly approach. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Emory University, and studying in France, Italy, and at Oxford University in England, he worked as a writer and journalist in London, Paris and New York City.

Matthew eventually returned to Texas, attended Rice University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Management, and entered the pharmaceutical industry, eventually becoming the President & CEO of the Texas Center for Drug Development, Inc., a clinical research company.

Fourteen years later, Matthew decided to explore his passion for distant cultures and exotic flavors by opening his first restaurant – Traveler’s Table. In preparation, Matthew attended and received an A.A.S. in Culinary Arts from      The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Houston, before working in a number of well-known restaurants in Houston. His desire to craft creative, worldly menus and serve delicious food in an unassuming yet hip environment came together at Traveler’s Table and, later, Traveler’s Cart, both opened in partnership with his wife, Thy.

Thy Mitchell

Thy Mitchell is a proud Houstonian and first-generation Vietnamese-American who grew up in a family where food was everything. Weekends were spent helping at her family’s small Vietnamese restaurant, where she learned early on the value of authentic flavors, hard work, and true hospitality, and she continued to work in the restaurant industry while attending the University of Houston.

Upon graduation, Thy began her career as a human resources and operations manager, while acquiring a master’s degree in human resources and employment relations. She enjoyed a successful career in human resources leadership positions for various Fortune 500 companies.

Today, she blends that experience with her creative side, overseeing marketing and operations for Traveler’s Collective — the family of brands she and her husband, Matthew, have built together.

Travel and food have always been at the heart of their relationship, and those adventures inspired Thy to launch Foreign Fare in 2023, a travel-centric apparel line designed for women who want to look and feel good wherever their journeys take them.

The teams at Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart have been featured on the Food Network shows, Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, Beat Bobby Flay, and Guy’s Grocery Games

Matthew and Thy are the 2025 Texas Restaurant Association's "Restaurateurs of the Year" award recipients for the Greater Houston Chapter.
